Barry pupils visit Dow Silicones for science week
PUPILS from All Saints Church in Wales Primary School in Barry were given a hands-on taste of real-world science during an exciting visit to Dow Silicones as part of British Science Week 2026.
A group of 31 pupils from years 4, 5 and 6 took part in an engaging workshop designed to inspire the next generation of scientists. The session, led by Dr Gareth Francis from Working Science, introduced pupils to the fascinating world of chemistry through a workshop creating bath bombs and bubble baths.

Pupils mixed solid and liquid ingredients, explored how materials change through chemical reactions, and selected their own scents to create personalised products to take home. From measuring ingredients to observing reactions, pupils developed their scientific thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity throughout the session.
The visit was part of Dow’s commitment to engaging with local schools during British Science Week. Pupils returned to school full of excitement, proudly sharing their creations and reflecting on what they had learned.
Miss Jones, year 6 Learning Support Assistant, said: “It was such a fantastic experience for both the children and staff. Seeing the pupils so engaged, curious and excited about science was wonderful. I have to admit, I enjoyed it just as much as the children! I can’t wait to try my bath bomb at home.”

The school extends sincere thanks to Catherine Lewis, Dow Silicones, and Dr Gareth Francis for delivering such an engaging session, and for continuing to support young learners across the Barry community.
