A PROLIFIC burglar from Barry who broke into a Sully home while the family slept and stole their Audi car has been jailed for 32 months.
Jacob Lawday, 19, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court where he admitted one burglary and two attempted burglaries in Sully and Penarth.
The court heard that Lawday, 19, carried out the burglary on 10th September and the abandoned car was found by police in Llandough the following day.
In a statement to the court, the victim said: “I worked hard to buy the car that was stolen and knowing that someone else had driven it following it being stolen is very unsettling and it has been damaged by the thieves which will incur financial cost.
“The burglaries also affected my neighbours, some of whom were also victims of attempted burglaries on the same night.
“We as a family hope that Jacob Lawday gets help to rehabilitate and recognise that what he has done is wrong and moves on with his life in a more positive direction.”
Lawday was identified from CCTV and arrested on 20 September. During his police interview, Lawday admitted that his intention was to steal cars and he would earn £200 to £400 per vehicle, which he spent on cannabis.
When sentenced, Lawday asked the court to take another 24 offences of attempted burglary across Penarth, Sully and Dinas Powys into consideration.
In February 2026, Lawday was handed a two-year prison term after he was one of three teenagers who committed a burglary spree that included the theft of eight cars and six bikes in 22 days.
