Police seize vehicle for careless driving
Officers from South Wales Police have reported taking decisive action to deal with speeding motorist in Barry.
The incident occurred early on Wednesday, 28th July, when officers from the Roads Policing Unit caught two vehicles ‘racing’ along the Promenade at 5.00am.
Commenting on the SWP Vale of Glamorgan Twitter account, officers stated, “2 section 59 notices for racing along the promenade Barry at 0500 hrs. Toyota Yaris driver failed to learn his lesson with his 1st warning a few months ago… 2nd time in 12 months = car #seized! #CostlyDecision #Team2East.”
Under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act, police and community support officers can seize vehicles used in an anti-social manner causing, or likely to cause, alarm, distress, or annoyance to the public. The vehicle or driver should first be provided with a warning unless impracticable to do so. If an officer reasonably believes a warning has been given in the past 12-months, they can seize the vehicle immediately.
