A personal view of local topics with Sue Vincent-Jones

Truth be told, I’ve always admired Welsh Government’s cautious approach, but even I’ve been left on my last nerve living in this long kind of limbo

But, after nearly 18 months of State restricted social behaviours, it’s now a no to mandatory masks, measly metre rules, queer quarantine, crappy QR codes, silly school bubbles, and inconvenient isolation.

And a very happy Hello to Freedom Day.

Welcome back luscious live music, spontaneous pints in the pub, watching City lose on a Saturday, movies sans masks, and real restaurant meals without the awkward online ordering.

I can’t wait to see those awful Apps go – since when did a queer QR code over a dodgy Wifi count as customer service.

Go figure.

Mmmm, what about masks then?

I think I’ll finally bid bye-bye to constant covering up and muzzle up on special occasions – you know like public transport trips, when feeling a bit fluey, or sauntering around those shops that make the rules up as they go along.

Nice to have the choice though ‘innit.

No qualms about travel quarantine, if your max vax then there’s just no need – enough said.

Same for self-isolation really – the double dose should do the trick.

And as I’ve always argued, it’s not working from home, it’s more like living at work, so let’s all get back to the office and those water cooler moments.

Social distancing is my only wild card.

I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve kind of enjoyed having a two-metre treat of personal space, and the rapid relief of realising not every random met has to have the obligatory hug.

Mind you, I’ll make an exception this week as I raise a very large glass to Freedom Day and the start of our proper pathway out of this painful pandemic,

Now get me to a gig!

  1. Wearing mask, social distancing, avoiding gigs and clubs, packed pubs and cinemas. This virus is not done yet despite what people may want to believe.
