Former Barry deputy mayor faces historical sex attack allegations

A TORY education chief carried out sex attack on four schoolchildren – leaving them “frozen with fear”, a court has heard today, Tuesday 24th August.
Anthony Hampton is accused of indecent assaults on two boys and two girls by licking, massaging and rubbed himself against them.
Hampton, the former cabinet member for education in the Vale of Glamorgan, is accused of the attacks while working as a private tutor.
Hampton, now 74, allegedly carried out 20 indecent assaults on the youngsters between the late 1970s and the mid-1990s.
Prosecutor, Roger Griffiths told the jury how Hampton is a councillor for Vale of Glamorgan Council – and all the victims were under the age of 16.
Mr Griffiths explained how one of the male complainants alleged that the defendant had pressed his crotch area into his arm.
The other male complaint alleged that Hampton had put his hands on his chest and massaged it, asking him whether “he liked that” and causing the boy to become “frozen through fear”.
There was also allegedly an incident where Hampton licked him on the neck and made groaning noises, the court was told.
One girl pupil alleged Hampton, of Barry, pressed his crotch behind her shoulders and made a self-satisfied noise.
Another alleged he had climbed on top of her and kissed her neck and rubbed his groin into hers.
Two of the alleged victims came forward after news reports on his arrest in 2019.
Mr Griffiths said: “When the defendant was arrested following the claims made by the two boys, he denied anything improper had taken place.
“He told the police he had a medical condition which would have prevented him carrying out the offences as the boys described.
“In April 2019, as a result of the publicity surrounding the case, both the other complainants became aware of the allegations and contacted the police.
“Mr Hampton has denied any allegations.”
Three of his alleged victims were his students while the fourth alleges the assault happened separately.
The retired teacher was voted in as a Conservative councillor, but was suspended after being charged.
The trial at Cardiff Crown Court is expected to last three weeks and the hearing continues.
