Top award for Llantwit community garden
GLAMORGAN Voluntary Services (GVS) has announced that its CF61 Gardening Project in Llantwit Major has received a Level 5 – outstanding award – from Wales in Bloom’s ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ awards.
Not only did the project achieve the highest award, it was also the first project to achieve a Level 5 award on its first attempt.

The project was inspected by the chairman and campaign coordinator in July and they were extremely impressed with the project’s community garden and three of the volunteers attended this year’s Wales in Bloom award ceremony in Abergavenny, where the results were announced and a certificate was received.
A GVS spokesperson said: “Thank you to our funders, partners and everyone who has made donations to the project. A massive congratulations goes to all our dedicated volunteers, who have worked so hard over the last few years to create an amazing space for the community to enjoy.”
At the entry to the site, volunteers uncovered a man-hole and cesspit which they converted into a Sensory Garden. They covered the concrete with stone and added planters with plants with strong scent, lots of colour and grasses that create movement.
