Cricketers look back on the Glory Days
FORTY years on from a famous September day in 1985, eight members of the Barry team that won the Welsh Cricket Cup at St Helens in Swansea, recently got together with family and friends at the Cricket club on Barry Island to relive the glory day.

The highlight of the evening was a question and answer session with Simon Jones, the 2005 Ashes winning fast bowler. Simon wished to congratulate Barry on their remarkable win when they were massive underdogs.
On the day Barry scored 195 for 4 in their 40 overs while Gowerton (with four former Glamorgan players) could only manage 129 for 9.
Dilwyn Samuel, the Barry captain and player of the match after an innings of 79 not out, said: “We had a marvellous evening recounting our campaign which included victories over St Fagans with Matthew Maynard and Maesteg with Steve Watkin.”
