Eira Woosnam celebrates her 101st birthday on Monday, 13th December.

Originally from Montgomeryshire, she met and married her husband Francis Woosnam in 1945.

They moved with their four children Philip, Eryl, David and Sylvia to Flemingstone in 1956 to embark on a new adventure.

Francis sadly passed away in 2014 after 69 years of marriage and Eira now lives in Llantwit Major surrounded by her children and their families, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, (five generations).

Her passion was music which she still enjoys. She played an active part with Y Felin Ladies’ Choir at Wick for many years and had the wonderful experience of singing with them at St David’s Hall. She also enjoyed reading and writing poetry but unfortunately is losing her sight and finds this very frustrating.

Celebrations are going to be difficult again this year but we will do our best to make the day memorable.

Eira attributes her longevity to the dedicated care she receives from her family, the lovely carers from Hallows and the occasional drop of Port.

We also believe genes have something to do with it as she still has two surviving sisters aged 97 and 94.

Birthday wishes from Eira’s family published within the printed edition of the Glamorgan Star, 2nd December 2021.
