Town Council offers VE Day street party grants

BARRY Town Council is to offer VE Day 80 street party grants to the community. Residents from across Barry are encouraged to get together with friends and neighbours to celebrate by hosting tea parties and street celebrations.

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday 8th May. It is an opportunity to come together to honour and pay tribute to the Second World War generation from across the UK and Commonwealth.

The grants offered by Barry Town Council allow organisers to claim £3.00 per person attending their VE Day event, whether that be a street party or community centre get-together, on either Bank Holiday Monday 5th May or Saturday 10th May. The grant can be used towards the cost of food and decorations.

Alongside Barry Town Council’s grant scheme, the Vale of Glamorgan Council is also offering residents the opportunity to apply for a FREE road closure on selected dates. There are terms and conditions applicable for the street road closures and all information can be found on Visit the Vale’s website.

Any interested party can apply for the Barry Town Council street party grant scheme by completing the application form available via their website and returning it via email or post before 4pm on Friday 25th April.
