A local Rotary Club recently took the chance to say ‘thank you’ to a supporter who has worked with the club to support Ukrainian refugees in the area.
Twelve months ago when the first refugees arrived a request came in for a bike. Since then, Simon Leadbitter (Simon’s Bikes Cowbridge) has refurbished and freely supplied over 20 bikes to families to help then get about the area.
To make this happen, Simon worked alongside the local Ukrainian support group, and Cowbridge Rotary Club, and on Saturday 4th Match, club president Huw Davies presented Simon with a rotary club ‘Certificate of Appreciation’. Simon has been part of the retail community in Cowbridge for 38 years.
Huw said: “Without the support of the local business community, many of the refugees would be suffering even further.”
A number of club members, along with president Huw Davies, then attended the charity coffee morning run by the Town Mayor, Cllr John Andrew, for him to present the club with the Cowbridge (Ancient Borough) and Llanblethian Town Council ‘Mayor’s Certificate of Appreciation’.
President Huw thanked the Mayor and said how pleased the club were. He added: “Over its 63-year history, members have tried to ensure that local needs were met, along with the club’s national and International commitments.”
Rotary club members present were also pleased to hear comments from other local community groups receiving the same award, who also mentioned the support received from the club.
Cowbridge Rotary are members of Rotary International which is represented in over 200 countries and regions with 1.4 million members worldwide.
Cowbridge Rotary also supports a Rotakids Club at Y Bontfaen Primary School, Two Interact Clubs at Cowbridge Comprehensive School and 18 months ago supported an e-Rotaract club in the town. All doing work and raising funds to support its communities.
