Church garden project welcomes community grant
A local church project to create a community garden in the centre of Barry has recently received a welcome cash injection of £1,200 courtesy of the Asda Foundation.
To the rear of St Mary’s Church on Holton Road, plans to turn a large plot of open space into an area for all the community to enjoy is now becoming a reality.
The church emphasises it is not just about services and that the garden is there for the community and those committed to it.
Asda Foundation grants are aimed at local groups and supports a broad range of activities which contribute towards transforming communities and improving lives. Information on the scheme is available online here.
On presenting the cheque to Father Daniel Barnes-Davies and long-time church member Susan Borges, Asda Barry community champion Charlene Duddridge said: “We see the Asda Foundation as one of the many ways to give back to the Communities that we serve.
“That’s why we lend a hand to the wide range of good causes helping to make a difference through a variety of projects locally.
“Supporting local groups that are on our doorstep, like St Mary’s garden project, is really important to us and we hope it will make a real difference within the local community in Barry.”
