Sport – Vale of Glamorgan Football League round up

Dinas Powys Development impress in the Barry Cup

THE Barry Cup took centre stage with many shocks along the way. We start with Premier Division leaders Cardiff Airport Reserves being dumped out of the cup by Tynewydd. Nathan Donnelly’s penalty proved to be the winner for last season’s semi-finalists.

Holders Penarth Town are through after a thrilling 3-2 win over Island Marine at Maslin Park. Penarth came back from a goal down to lead before Marine brought it level again, but Macauley Winton struck the winner to ensure Penarth’s spot in the last eight.

St Athan saw off Vale United Reserves emphatically, winning 6-1, the tie being tight at 2-1 with 10 minutes to go but St Athan added four more in that time for the big win.

Dinas Powys Development put out Premier Division AFC Rhoose at Ceri Road, George Owens getting the decisive goal in a 2-1 win. Dinas have started the season fantastically well as newcomers to League One, but some may see them as favourites for the cup after this win.

Championship leaders Cwm Talwg demolished Peterston Super Ely 10-1 with an incredible display, Mitchell Thomas and Ellis Howe both getting hat-tricks.

Vale Madrid saw off League One Ely Rangers Wenvoe 4-2, Cory James scoring twice as Madrid progressed.

Rhoose Social moved into the next round after a 4-1 win over Holton Road Reserves. Chris Morgan, Dan Cope, Richard Davies and Nik Pateras scored the goals for Social who now face Premier Division Tynewydd in the quarter finals.

League One Porthkerry Panthers knocked out Cogan Coronation Reserves 3-2. Cogan had beaten high flying Barry Athletic in the previous round but are now out thanks to a double from Tyler Jenkinson.

There was one league game in the Premier Division, Teejay Caton inspiring Barry Athletic to a 5-0 win over Cadoxton Imps with two goals and two assists as Athletic move second, one point off Airport with a game in hand.
