Eastbrook Station bridge reinstalled but not complete
IN an impressive feat of engineering, logistics and timing, Eastbrook train station’s refurbished footbridge has been reinstalled overnight.
However, a statement from Stephen Griffths, Conservative County Councillor for Dinas Powys suggests the bridge will not open for use for about a fortnight due to some missing steps.
County Councillor Griffths, said, “Whilst the pedestrian foot bridge over Eastbrook Station has been reinstated overnight it is currently closed. A worker on site has stated that it will take approximately two weeks for the missing steps to be installed and all health and safety protocols signed off.
“County Councillors Stephen Griffiths, Vince Driscoll, Andy Robertson and Rob Crowley will monitor the situation and will let you know if there are any updates.”
The bridge was removed on Saturday 25th September as part of wider refurbishment works at the station with an expected return date of Sunday 3rd October.

On social media yesterday, Network Rail announce the return of the bridge overnight and posted previous images (above) of the footbridge’s removal. There was no mention of when the bridge would be fully opened for use by the general public.

Des,
Having recently moved from Radyr to Dinas Powys and witnessed first hand the comprehensive station renovations that have been undertaken by Network Rail at, for example, Llandaf and Radyr stations, I am disappointed that the inhabitants of Dinas Powys are, for the foreseeable future, expected to utilise a ‘refurbished’ footbridge whose design rationale originates from several decades ago. I cannot help but feel that Dinas Powys residents have been short changed with regard to matters pertaining to the update of local infrastructure. The recently installed footbridges at Llandaf and Radyr stations are at least two metres wide with each step having an anti-slip coating and dedicated water drainage holes. In addition to new expansive and safer footbridges, these stations also provide step-free access to all platforms through the provision of lifts to ensure mobility impaired passengers can access any platform from the dedicated car park at each station. Eastbrook station is no different to Llandaf and Radyr stations: the station car park is located on one side of the station only. Why have Network Rail not taken the opportunity to ‘refurbish’ the footbridge by instead installing a modern footbridge and lift system similar to those at Llandaf and Radyr stations that caters for all needs and in turn standardising the infrastructure with what already exists in Cardiff?
