Local man’s first art exhibition – at 81
Local artist David March has been painting all his life but now he is holding his first exhibition – at the age of 81.
His work is being showcased in the Old Hall, Cowbridge. The exhibition began earlier this month and runs until 31st March.
David now lives in St Athan and it was in 1959 that he graduated from art college and took a job in the advertising industry.
In his early days, he was one of the artists who painted scenes for advertising hoardings and over his time in the business, he was involved in campaigns for Ford, Vauxhall and a raft of household names.

Another phase of his life was creating the artwork that set the scenes for major exhibitions such as the Ideal Home or the Motor Show.
David said: “We were responsible for the entrance area – the first thing that visitors to the show would see.”
Another unusual aspect of his work was when there was a revival in pub signs – the type that hang outside many establishments.
David explained: “There was a lot of re-branding of pubs at one stage – with names like The Slug and Lettuce – and my job was to create new pub signs for new pubs!”
However, David always continued to paint what he enjoyed during his spare time – and when he retired he was able to devote himself to that. His work features striking landscapes and he also loves to capture the colour and design to be found in nature.
