DINAS Powys have been in cup action at The Murch over the past couple of weekends, both times against higher level opponents.
First up was Cardiff Dracs from the JD Cymru South. Unfortunately, three first half goals for the Dracs sealed Dinas’ fate although Temitope Adekunle scored a consolation in a 3-1 defeat. Next was the SWPL’s W John Owen Cup where Premier Division Pencoed Athletic BGC were the visitors. After going behind to an early penalty, Gareth Emmanuel equalised before Pencoed hit back going into the interval 2-1. However, Emmanuel wasn’t finished and scored two more – one from the penalty spot – with his hat-trick winner coming in stoppage time!
Ely Rangers have been in league action, drawing away at Porthcawl Town Athletic. One down at half time, Harrison Coughlin scored in the opening minute of the second half before Porthcawl took the lead again and a stoppage time goal by substitute Morgan Cole secured the draw for Rangers.
Last Saturday, Rangers travelled to play Wales’ oldest club, Treharris Athletic Western, and in a nine-goal thriller, Rangers came away with a 5-4 victory. Two goals from Tom Bell and Zach Cleary and an own goal gave them the three points.
In the Championship, it seems that Vale United’s goals have dried up – going down 4-0 at home to Tata Steel United, and then exiting the W John Owen Cup to Splott 5-0.
After a late abandoned game due to a player injury, Cogan Coronation faced their Division One rivals Cardiff Hibs in the W John Owen Cup. After a 1-1 draw at full time – Ben Hansen-Taylor was Cogan’s scorer – the game went to penalties where Cogan held their nerve to come away with a 3-0 result. Former Barry Town Utd player Jordan Cotterill was the Hibs scorer.
Holton Road travelled to Beddau to face Cwm Welfare and were on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline. Shaun Jachontow scored their consolation goal.
Sully Sports league games have also seen goals – a total of 17! They lost away to Cardiff Hibs 6-5. Andy Smith, Amanj Hassan – who saw red 5mins later – Zac Baker and Joe Stephens-Collins on Sully’s scoresheet. Last Saturday, they travelled to Cardiff again to face bottom team Grange Albion but the form book was ripped up and Sully were surprisingly beaten. Andy Smith opened the scoring before Albion scored three. Zac Baker scored Sully’s second but Albion took the points with their fourth in stoppage time.
Coming up this weekend, Ely Rangers travel to Port Talbot to face Afan United. In the Championship, Dinas also travel and face last season’s FAW Trophy Finalists Penygraig United. Vale United will hope for their form to return when they face bottom club AFC Penrhiwceiber away.
In Division One West, Sully are home to bottom club Brynna whilst Holton Road host leaders Margam YC.
