Injury-hit Barry players’ anger at skipper’s yellow card

Two late tries saw a makeshift Barry suffer a heavy defeat in a match which brought the threat of a walk-off by several players shortly before the interval.
They were unhappy with some of the official decisions in the first half, which had seen Barry suffering a number of injuries, resulting in scrums being uncontested after 30 minutes.
And when skipper Tom Perry tried to speak to the referee after Porth’s second try in the 38th minute, he was shown a yellow card, sparking a brief hold-up before frustrated players were persuaded to carry on.
The club is awaiting an official report and declined to comment on the incident after the game.
It was always going to be a difficult afternoon for the home side badly hit by a large number of unavailabilities. Head coach Liam Scott had no option but to name a line-up which had several players out of position, and some making a first appearance for several months.
“Today is probably the outcome from a series of disjointed weeks,” said Scott.
“No games, different people at training, having people away, and ultimately at some point you hit rock bottom, which is probably where we are today.”
“It’s frustrating when you’ve got 40 unavailable for whatever reason for the first game for six weeks, and you haven’t got another game for four weeks. You would think everyone would be available.”
Porth, inevitably the better side, led 12-0 at the break, with tries from Jordan Evans (16 minutes) and Ben Peever (38), the latter converting his own try.
Barry had the wind at their backs in the first half, but despite getting good positions in the Porth 22 from some booming kicks by Kyle Barros, failed to break through a determined defence.
The second half was initially evenly contested, but after Lewis Burton charged down a kick midway through the half for the third try, Peever converting, the outcome was never in doubt.
Niall Jackson got the bonus point try after 77 minutes, and Bailey Roberts raced from deep in his own half for the fifth two minutes later as Barry ran out of steam. Peever converted both.
