Capital is set to stage monumental public event:

The capital of Wales host of a monumental event today to mark the accession of the UK’s new head of state following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Cardiff Council announced that arrangements have been made for Cardiff Castle to stage the proclamation of the new monarch, King Charles III on Sunday, 11th September.

Prior to the proclamation, which will take place at noon, a Proclamation Guard made up of 26 men of the 3rd Battalion the Royal Welsh, supported by the Band of the Royal Welsh and accompanied by the regimental mascot, will march from City Hall at 11.25am. 

The guard will march along Boulevard de Nantes, North Road and Duke Street to Cardiff Castle. Road closures will be put in place.

At the castle, the Wales Herald of Arms Extraordinary, Tom Lloyd, will make the announcement in English and the Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan, Morfudd Meredith, will proclaim King Charles III in Welsh.

The leader of Cardiff Council, Cllr Huw Thomas will be in attendance, as will the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford; the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, the Rt Hon Cllr Graham Hinchey; and the Secretary of State for Wales, Sir Robert Buckland.

After the readings of the proclamation, members of 104th Regiment (Newport) of the Royal Artillery will fire a 21-gun salute before the singing of God Save the King and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the event.

Gates to the castle open at 10am but space is limited to about 2,000 people and entry will be on a first come, first served basis.
