Penarth Town clinched the Premier Division title on Saturday, 12th March, without kicking a ball, as title rivals Holton Road were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Island Marine after a frantic late equaliser.
Penarth win the Vale Premier Division for the first time since 2008, and now enter the play offs with other league winners from South Wales to compete for promotion to the SWFA Alliance League.
It was a thriller at Maslin though as Dan Morgan fired a hat-trick to put Holton Road 3-0 up but an incredible comeback was started as, 12 minutes from time, Tom Barnfield pulled one back and then four minutes later Harry Byrne set up a grandstand finish. Then, in the 87th minute, the comeback was complete as Adam Sheppard grabbed the equaliser for Marine.
AFC Rhoose moved above Cadoxton Barry into third place with a 2-1 victory at Ceri Road. A Mohammed Moore own goal gave Rhoose the lead early on before top scorer Randall levelled the score with his 20th league goal of the campaign. Bryan then hit what turned out to be the winner for Rhoose in the 55th minute for a big win.
St Athan moved up to fifth with an entertaining 5-3 win over Tynewydd at the Butts. Lucas gave St Athan a two-goal advantage at the break with a brace. Hicks then pulled one back for Tynny before John converted from the spot to restore St Athan’s two-goal cushion. That didn’t last long as Tynny pulled another back again through Hicks, but Lucas completed his hat-trick with an exquisite volley. Williamson then sealed the points with St Athan’s fifth before a late injury time penalty from Williams for Tynewydd.
Cardiff Airport came from a goal down to secure three points away against Barry Athletic. Ihbaseh gave Athletic the lead and Airport hit back with a strike from Gunn and a double from Jones before Booker pulled one back, but Airport hung on for the win.
In Division One, there were only two games. Rhoose Social continue to hunt down Holton Road B in third spot as they won one of their games in hand by beating Vale Madrid at Burnham Avenue. Good bagged a brace and Morgan added another for Social before Ferriday pulled a late consolation back.
Vale Athletic moved into fifth place with a comfortable 2-0 win away at St Athan B, Rodwell’s first half double enough to secure the victory.
