Plan to keep Llysworney free of HGVs
Nash Junction in Llysworney is to be restructured under plans announced by the Vale Council to divert traffic coming from Llantwit Major away from the village towards the bypass.
A local campaign group, working alongside Cllr Christine Cave and Vale MP Alun Cairns, has been liaising with the council to develop the plans, which have been welcomed by Llysworney residents.
Large HGVs are a regular sight in the village, on their way to the A48.
Under the new plans, weight limit signage and a realigning of the road at Nash Junction, will deter traffic from entering the village.
The council’s plan is aimed at guiding traffic away from Llysworney.
The ‘gateway’ to Llysworney will be narrowed, and road markings will highlight how narrow the road is. Along with this, the junction towards Cowbridge and the new link road to the A48 will be widened to make the turn easier and more obvious.
Vale MP Alun Cairns said that the news had largely been welcomed by local residents and those involved in the campaign. He said: “I want to pay tribute to the Action Group, community council and Cllr Cave for pressing the local authority for a solution, and for the way the council has responded.
“The new plans will significantly improve traffic issues in Llysworney and improve the safety.”
The work to restructure the junction is expected to begin later this year.

Some thought also needs to be given to widening this road as it passes the Cross inn to join the new section. The road is totally inadequate for the increased traffic.
