Information from the public is so important.
I am Mark Henderson – the Neighbourhood Inspector with the responsibility for neighbourhood policing matters in Barry and the Vale:
We have had some good arrests and positive results in court since my last update.
One which I’m sure will be of interest is the arrest of an individual for burglaries at a Barry nursing home. A suspect was arrested within hours of the incident being reported to us after officers said they recognised him from CCTV images. Police Sergeant Jake Rollnick and the Barry Neighbourhood Policing Team wasted no time in tracking him down at his home address.
A 44-year-old local man has since been charged with two burglaries and four attempt burglaries, plus seven other charges relating to cars being broken into across the town.
Importantly, all the property stolen from residents at the nursing home has been found and returned to their owners.
Four men have also been arrested following concerns from the community about individuals selling illegal cigarettes, vapes, tobacco, and nitrous oxide canisters from premises in Barry and Cardiff.
More commonly known as laughing gas, Nitrous Oxide is sold in small silver canisters which are regularly found discarded in parks and open spaces. It has several legitimate uses but when inhaled it can cause unconsciousness or death due to a lack of oxygen, so this is something we take very seriously.
In court, Ryan Greening, 28, from Barry, was recently sentenced to three years imprisonment at Cardiff Crown Court for supplying cocaine. Officers found drugs in his house and his phone revealed Whatsapp and Facebook messages showing he was regularly supplying cocaine.
We can, and regularly do, act upon the information provided to us by the public about suspected drug dealing so please keep it coming.
With Christmas fast approaching, I wanted to pass on some crime prevention advice as criminals know that people have valuable gifts at home and in their cars:
• Double check doors and windows are locked when you go out and you go to bed at night
• Don’t leave Christmas presents on display or in your vehicles
• If you are going away, please fit timer switches to lamps and leave a car on your drive or ask a relative or friend to park there.
