IT WAS a day of contrasting fortunes for Sully Centurions’ two teams last Saturday.
The First XI travelled to Crumlin and secured a comfortable win. Crumlin batted first and their innings started badly as Lowther was run out for four with the score on six. Nick Jones then claimed the first of his three wickets by dismissing Davies for one.
Wickets continued to fall steadily, with another at 12. Although Crumlin briefly recovered, two more wickets left them reeling at 33-5.
Centurions pressed home their advantage, with two wickets falling with the score on 48. After another two wickets fell, leaving the home side on 67-9, the writing was on the wall. The final wicket went down when Hopkins, who top scored with 26 runs, was caught off the bowling of Jake Griffett, leaving the total on 82 all out after just 24 overs.
The wickets were shared out between the Sully bowlers, but Nick Jones (3-21) and Dan Roberts (3-23) took the main bowling honours.
In reply, Centurions got off to a fine start, with a half-century opening stand between Lloyd Bruce (23) and Kieron Ferriday (30). A slight wobble occurred when both openers were dismissed by Maran, in quick succession, to leave the score on 61-2. But Shae Ellis and Gethin Hicks finished the job, taking Sully to victory in the 14th over, without any further loss.

The Second XI hosted Miskin Manor at Burnham Avenue, with Miskin winning the toss and batting first.
After last week’s century, Basil John showed that he is no slouch with the ball, taking the first two wickets, to leave the visitors on 40-2. However, this brought Sawant and Lewis together for a partnership that was to change the course of the match. Both batsmen began finding the boundary with relative ease, so it was no surprise when both passed the half century milestone.
Skipper Zia Gehlan juggled his bowling attack in an attempt to find a breakthrough, but the runs kept coming. The partnership had reached 187 before Sawant finally fell to Kapil Rokad, when he was caught for 118 by Imran Ahmed, with the score on 233-3. Imran took three wickets at the end, including that of Lewis for 75, but the total of 286 for 7 was going to be a difficult one to overhaul.
Basil John and Gurvinder ‘Sonu’ Singh started as though they meant business, with both hitting several boundaries in a very short time. But this strategy proved to be a risky one, with John eventually falling for 38 after just four overs, with the total on 74. After Bharat was dismissed cheaply, Sonu was run out for 37, with the score on 91.
A partnership of 78 from Shan and Raffiqur gave Centurions some hope. But, when Shan fell for 23, things were looking bleak. Shaffiqur eventually went for a well-made 63, to leave Sully on 223-7. In spite of a gutsy 22 from Noor, the target proved elusive. Eventually, Centurions were all out for 234, giving Miskin a comfortable win.
