BOTH Sully Centurions teams faced local rivals Dinas Powys on Saturday, but Dinas ended up with the bragging rights.
The First XI hosted Dinas Powys Firsts at Burnham Avenue, where Sully won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first.
Centurions struck early with James Haswell and Nick Jones grabbing the wickets of Hannah (14) and Dhanushka (10) to leave Dinas on 35-2 after 10 overs. But this brought together Brotherton and Hurley, who picked up the pace and had put on 120 for the third wicket, to reach 155, when Brotherton was caught behind off the bowling of Sully captain Ricki Griffett for 71.
Hurley followed soon afterwards, falling lbw to Jake Griffett for 44, leaving the score on 156-4. With three more wickets falling cheaply, it looked as though Sully had regained the upper hand, but a late stand of 37 between Pradeep (23 not out) and Mullins (20 not out) left the visitors on 222-7 when the innings closed. For Centurions, the main wicket takers were Ricki Griffett and Dan Roberts, who both picked up two.
After tea, Centurions started badly, losing two early wickets for just 12 runs. Ricki Griffett and Shae Ellis had a go at repairing the damage, but Ricki fell for 20. Shae then had a half-century partnership with James Haswell, which looked as though it may have steadied the ship. But after Shae was out for a well-made 66, the last four wickets fell for just 11 runs. This meant that Dinas Powys had won easily. Fogden (4-36) was the standout bowler.
Sully Centurions 145 all out, Dinas Powys 222-7
The Second XI were just up the road at Bryn y Don, facing Dinas Powys Seconds, in a much closer affair. Batting first, Centurions lost early wickets and were soon on 35-4. Skipper Zia Gehlan and Shan Rehman began repairing the damage and had taken the score to 69 when Zia fell to Marks for 20.
Shan continued to score freely, along with Dhaler Singh (20) and the score had reached 105 when Singh fell for 14, off the bowling of Fernando. Imran Ahmed added some more momentum to the innings, keeping pace with Shan, who eventually fell for 55. Imran batted well with the tail to end on 58 not out, with the score on 220 for 8. Isaac Marks (4-55) took the bowling honours for Dinas.
In reply, White and Clarke took the score along to 34, when White was dismissed by Amrik for 8. Then another two quick wickets left the score 38-3, before Fernando fell for 18. But Zaman, batting at 7, took to the Sully attack with relish, eventually scoring 66. After he fell, Campbell (22) and Jabir (9) kept their nerve to get them over the line with a six from Jabir from the final ball of the game, for the loss of 9 wickets. Imran (2-18) and Amrik (2-15) were the most successful of the Sully bowlers.

On Saturday, there is another double header with the First XI taking on Whitchurch Heath Seconds and Sully Seconds travelling to Whitchuch to face their Third XI.
