AFTER last week’s washouts, the weather stayed fair for Sully Centurions Cricket Club, with the First XI having a convincing nine-wicket victory over Monkswood at Burnham Avenue. Unfortunately, the Second XI fell to another defeat at Mountain Ash.
The First XI won the toss and decided to bowl. Tom Davies started the ball rolling when he had Mike Jones caught by Ricki Griffett for just 6six. Then Young was run out, courtesy of a smart piece of work by Shae Ellis, leaving the visitors on 42-2. When Mark Jones fell to Lloyd Bruce, caught behind, the score was 63-3.
No alarm bells were ringing, but they then lost five wickets for just 16 runs, with Jake Griffett being the main wicket taker, finally finishing with 5-7, with Lloyd Bruce chipping in with three wickets. Monkswood were eventually all out for just 81. There were five ducks and only three scores in double figures.
Centurions took just 10 overs to get the required runs, for the loss of just one wicket, as the game finished very early.

The Second XI were once again forced to play with a reduced side, thanks to unavailability. Batting first at Mountain Ash, they managed to get 142 all out. Top scorer was Quasi Ferdous, the former Centurion player, who played on loan from his current club, Great Western CC. He finished with a fine 78 not out.
In response, in spite of the early wicket of Bennett, the home side managed to reach the target for the loss of only one more wicket. Manley (45 not out) and Roberts (55) did most of the damage. The target was reached in the 17th over.
