Sport – Nine-man Rhoose just fail to hold out against Barry Athletic

Vale of Glamorgan Football League round up

BARRY Athletic left it late but came back from 2-0 down against nine-man AFC Rhoose to rescue a point.

Andrew Townsend and Jay Munn gave AFC Rhoose the halftime lead, but an Ollie Tipples penalty brought Athletic back into it. Rhoose saw two players sent off in the last 20 minutes and then with four minutes to go Theo Savva grabbed the equaliser.

It was another late show, this time from Cardiff Airport, as they scored twice in the last 10 minutes to take all three points against Vale United. Ben Hopkins had given United the lead in the first half but Casey Thompson levelled the scores on 83 minutes and Taylor Turner grabbed the winner with minutes remaining.

In the Championship, Tynewydd went top of the table with a 4-2 win over Cwm Talwg. Tynny took advantage of Vale Madrid not being in action to leapfrog them into top spot having now played a game more.

Cadoxton Imps thrashed Porthkerry Panthers 8-0 to go third while Cardiff Airport Vets were in seven heaven with 7-0 romp over St Athan Thirds.

Lawrence Walpole was the star of the show for Barry Athletic Reserves with two goals and an assist as they beat AFC Rhoose Development 5-1 away at Ceri Road.

Cam West hit a hat-trick for St Athan Reserves as they picked up their first win since opening day as they hammered Rhoose Social 6-1.

In the Hugh James South Wales FA Cup, Premier Division leaders St Athan went out on penalties after a 3-3 draw with Trelewis Welfare from Merthyr. Peterston super Ely were edged out 3-2 by Liwynypia from the Rhondda. Penarth Town go into the next round with a 4-1 win over Stanleytown, also from the Rhondda league, David Shallis notching twice in the win.

Island Marine stormed to a 10-3 victory over Aberdare league based Gadlys Rovers with Adam Owens running the show with a hat-trick and four assists.

Championship leaders Vale Madrid came back from a goal down to defeat Pontypridd 3-1 to advance to round two.

Vale Athletic crashed out 5-1 to Cathays Cons from the Cardiff Combination league, and FC Barry walloped Ynysybwl 7-2 to go in the hat for the next round.
