BARRY Athletic took advantage of their nearest rivals not playing on 12th January to extend their lead at the top to six points, albeit having played two games more, with a narrow 1-0 win over Island Marine in the Island Derby.
Morgan Hawkins converted a penalty, and then Island Marine missed a spot kick of their own and it was Athletic who took the win. St Athan moved up to fourth with a 3-1 win over Vale Madrid in Sully, new signing Darren Robinson getting on the scoresheet on his debut.
The divisional Cups also kicked off. In the Supporters Cup, AFC Rhoose advanced with a 3-0 win over Cadoxton Imps, McKenzie Davies Ashton scoring twice.
In the Dockers Cup, Rhoose Social saw off Barry Athletic Reserves 4-2, Myles Case notching two and teeing up another. AFC Rhoose Development went through after a penalty shoot out win over Porthkerry Panthers following a 2-2 draw. Penalties was also needed by Cowbridge Town after their 0-0 stalemate with St Athan Reserves, Cowbridge advancing.
In the Goodwood Cup, Sparta Park edged Llantwit Major Thirds 2-1 thanks to Nathan Donnelly’s double. Aiden Perrett scored twice as Sully Sports Development saw off Holton Road Reserves 4-0. Ely Rangers Wenvoe thumped Island Marine Development 6-0 in an impressive performance and Barry Athletic Development beat Cadoxton Imps Seconds 6-1 with Tom Halliday scoring four.
In League One there was just the one game as St Athan Development picked up a much-needed win to lift themselves off the foot of the table with a 2-1 win over FC Barry, Sean Whitelock and Matt Bagnall with the goals.
