Vale Surf nippers end season in fine style

Vale Surf Lifesaving Club

THE youngest members of Vale Surf Lifesaving Club ended their summer season on a high at the Whitmore Bay beach carnival recently, placing a fantastic third overall. 

A club spokesperson said: “They all raced very well both in the ocean and on the beach and most importantly, showed brilliant sportsmanship throughout the day. There were big smiles all around and lots of cheering, which is what the club is all about.

“The races included swim and boarding in the sea, running on the beach as well as team relay events- it really was a jam packed day! 

“A special well done to our medal winners: Bobby Haigh – silver under-8 flags; Gino Busuttil – gold under-8 flags; Jacksons Mazey – silver under-13 flags; Cal Davies – silver under-9 swim; Sophie Macpherson – gold nder-9 board, silver under-9 long run, bronze under-9 swim, bronze under-9 flags.

“Also: Ava Clutterbuck – silver under-12 long run; Olive Glyn-Jones – gold under-8 long run, gold under-8 flags; Mardi Glyn -Jones – bronze under-10 long run;  Freya Williams – silver under-11 long run; Danny Crespo – bronze under-12 long run; Danny Bland – silver under-9 long run; Ethan Ryan – gold under-10 long run; Annie Cooper – bronze under-13 board; Mardi, Olive and Edie – bronze under-8,9,10 taplin. 

“The club also did brilliantly in all the relays, coming away with a medal in all ages! We are extremely proud of all of our nippers and it has been great to see them grow from strength to strength over the summer!

“A big thank you to Whitmore Bay SLSC for hosting a great day of racing and to the parents, helpers and volunteers. Also, thanks to nipper coordinator Hayley and all our amazing coaches for helping our nippers get to where they are today.

Vale Surf Lifesaving Club is a registered charity organisation based at Barry Yacht Club, Jacksons Bay. The family-orientated club offers training all year round in all aspects of surf lifesaving including lifesaving skills, water safety and lifesaving sport. Vale SLSC are currently recruiting and welcoming new nippers, juniors, seniors and masters (ages 7 to 30+).
