BARRY YOUTH geared up for two potentially season-defining fixtures over the next two weekends with a sparkling performance in this friendly at the windswept Reservoir Field, running in eight tries.
The young Bombers host Cowbridge in the Cardiff Region South Cup A division on Saturday (25th November) with the title and a place in the final against the winner of the B division at stake. One week later Caerphilly, among the favourites for the WRU Youth Cup, visit Barry for a last 16 tie.
Barry have struggled for games in recent weeks, with opponents pulling out of South Cup fixtures, and the Bombers had three blank weekends before beating Risca in the Youth Cup on 11th November.
Another blank weekend loomed as Dinas Powys declined to play a South Cup fixture, St Peter’s agreeing to fill the breach as Youth head coach John Dimond aimed to maintain the momentum generated by the 24-16 victory over Risca.

“We got the ring rust out in the first half last week but put it together in the second half against Risca,” said Dimond. “To put that volume of points today on a St Peter’s outfit, at any level, I didn’t see that coming.
“But the final score goes to show what our boys can do if they are playing regularly. I couldn’t ask for anything more today. In the first half, against the wind, our objective was to hold them,” he said. Barry led 25-5 at the interval, scoring four tries, including a hat-trick from Morgan Prosser.
“Some of the skills were phenomenal,” said Dimond. “A big game next week against Cowbridge, and a really big game against Caerphilly. I’m looking forward to the next two weeks.”
Barry’s fine, flowing moves frequently left St Peter’s clutching at thin air. Defensively the Bombers were solid almost throughout, resolutely keeping the Rocks at bay when the game briefly went to uncontested scrums.
Barry: tries – Morgan Prosser (four), Rhys Nicholls (two), Morgan Price, Braydan Griffiths; conv – Griffiths (four); pen – Griffiths.
- Youth players Morgan Prosser and Caelan Hurley are in the Cardiff and Vale College squad taking part in the World Schools Festival in Thailand next month. Teams from England, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa will also be taking part.
- Barry’s Admiral National League Division One East Central home fixture against St Joseph’s was called off as the Reservoir Field first team pitch was unplayable. They visit Ynysybwl in the league on Saturday, with Einan Scott set to make his 150th first team appearance.
