THERE were celebrations in Llantwit Major recently as Valerie Drennan – known to all as Val – reached her own personal milestone.
Val celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday, 22nd June, with a family meal at the Victoria Inn, Sigginstone.
The eldest of six children, Val Mollart was born in Exeter and grew up in Cardiff. After leaving school at 14, she went to work at Howells department store in the city centre, then as a telephonist at the GPO.
Val married Stan Drennan on 26th December, 1947, with a special licence (because it was Boxing Day) and went on to have two children. They first lived in lodgings in St Fagans before building their own house as part of a self-build group in Rumney with a mortgage from the Council.
Val stayed in Cardiff until 1995 when she moved to Llys Dewi, Llantwit Major where she has lived ever since.
