Sport – Late goal gives Barry Athletic a vital win

Vale of Glamorgan Football League round up

BARRY Athletic went two points behind Vale Premier Division leaders Cardiff Airport Reserves after edging Cadoxton Imps 3-2. Twice Athletic led but twice Imps pegged them back before Ryan Escott’s 83rd minute winner.

Third placed St Athan got back to winning ways with a 9-0 demolition of bottom side Vale Athletic, Sean Nash hitting a hat trick in the romp.

Tynewydd saw off Vale United with a 5-1 win, Nathan Donnelly and Nathan Williams both with braces to keep Tynewydd in fourth.

Sam Price came off the bench to hit the winner as Island Marine came out 2-1 winners over AFC Rhoose at Ceri Road. Marine sit fifth in the table.

In the Championship, unbeaten leaders Vale Madrid bounced back from their league cup exit last week with a 4-0 away win over AFC Rhoose Development. Vale extended their lead at the top to four points after Cwm Talwg were held to a draw by Island Marine Reserves, Talwg fighting back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3.

Cardiff Airport Vets sit third as they came out 4-1 winners over Rhoose Social, Hall, Steel, Griffiths and Stradling with the goals.

St Athan Reserves moved fourth after a 3-1 win over Peterson Super Ely. Hayvice, West and Boyd scored the crucial goals.

Kellan Allison scored a 97th minute penalty to rescue a point as Cogan Coronation Reserves did their hopes of staying up no harm with a 1-1 draw against Barry Athletic Reserves. Five points now separates Athletic Reserves in fifth and second from bottom Cogan Reserves.

In League One, Dinas Powys Development finally returned to the top of the table with a comprehensive 9-0 win over St Athan Development, Mike Lazarou scoring four goals.

And finally, Cadoxton Imps Seconds moved up to fifth place after edging Holton Road Reserves 1-0 thanks to James Burns’ goal.
