Prestigious award for green columnist
THE Glamorgan Star environmental columnist Brian Mayne was recently awarded the honour of life membership of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM).
The award was presented by Dr Greenfield at his inauguration as the new president of the CIWM, hosted by Barry Gardiner MP at the House of Commons.
Brian, a fellow of the CIWM and the Royal Society of Arts, is a Chartered Environmentalist and recognised by the International Solid Waste Association as an International Waste Manager.
He is an active volunteer with local groups such as Friends of Barry Beaches and Barry Action for Nature, as well as a director of his own environmental consultancy that works for clients across the public, private and third sectors offering advice and training on sustainable development, the circular economy and wastes management. He is also a visiting lecturer at Cardiff University.
Ben Maizey, chair of CIWM Cymru said: “Anyone who knows Brian will know he is a man of infectious enthusiasm, boundless positive passion and an unwavering commitment to our industry, the Institution itself and the community around him. His contribution over the years has been nothing short of outstanding and this recognition couldn’t be more fitting.”
