Choir’s concert features a new song about Barry
Barry Male Voice Choir’s next concert will feature a world premiere on 19th November at 7.00pm in St Helens Church.
‘Between the valley and sea’ is a song about Barry and was commissioned by BMVC from lyricist and composer duo Grahame Davies and Robat Arwyn. Poet and song-writer Grahame is a past winner of the Welsh Book Award, and Robat Arwyn is well known for songs such as ‘Benedictus’, ‘Yfory’ and ‘Anfonaf Angel’.
The song includes words taken from a memorial stone on Friar’s Point and from that starting point Grahame has written the lyrics. BMVC acting chairman Martyn Todd describing the music as having “the Robat Arwyn hallmark of a memorable tune, at times lyrical and at others stirring”. The choir was fortunate to secure funding from Ty Cerdd for the commission and for a visit from Robat Arwyn to rehearse the Boys in Blue. Grahame Davies also visited a rehearsal to hear for the first time his words being sung.
Also performing in the concert is tenor Rhydian Jenkins who last month was crowned Welsh Young Singer of the Year, Penarth-based violinist Simon Carter and hl Senior Choir.
