Pencoed triumph in ‘superb’ game against South Gower

Pencoed 32 v South Gower 26 – This was a superb game of rugby with both sides throwing caution to the wind.
Rhys Clarke gave Pencoed the lead with a penalty goal and it was the home side who scored the first try, through hooker Zach Taylor, with Clarke converting for a 10-0 lead.

South Gower soon hit back with a try from Lewys Jonathan converted by Sam Williamson. Clarke got his second penalty before outside half Williamson darted over and Pencoed led 13-12 at the interval.
The visitors started the second half strongly with a penalty and a converted try from Sam Court to take a nine-point lead. However, once again this young Pencoed side showed they are nothing but resilient and proceeded to attack from all parts of the Recreation Ground, sweeping play resulting in two superb tries for Jack Bevan and Lewis Bowen.

Zach Taylor also got his second try and the boot of Clarke brought up a stunning 32-26 bonus point victory. Youth certainly came to the fore for the home side with current youth No8 Harley Moore making his First XV debut and looking entirely comfortable at this level. Young scrum half Cai Harries, in his first season at senior level, was chosen as Pencoed’s man of the match, his swift service, impressive tackle count and secondary cover work catching the eye. Pencoed now move up to second place in Division Two West Central.
