THE Conservative Senedd member for Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan, Andrew RT Davies, has encouraged local community groups to apply for a new defibrillator funding programme.
The scheme is run by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and successful applicants will receive a defibrillator and a cabinet. Around 3,000 cardiac arrests take place each year in Wales outside of a hospital.
Just 1 in 20 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Wales, compared to 1 in 10 in England and Scotland. Every minute without CPR or defibrillation during cardiac arrest reduces a person’s chance of survival by 10%.
Community groups can apply for the scheme on the British Heart Foundation’s website. Applications are expected to close on 28th February 2027.
Andrew RT Davies said: “This is a fantastic initiative from the British Heart Foundation, and I’d urge local community groups to apply.
“I delivered several community defibrillators through my Community Engagement Fund (CEF) when I was a Vale of Glamorgan councillor – and it’s great to see further opportunities to improve coverage across our area.”
