Tipples’ hat-trick puts Airport back on track

Cardiff Airport Firsts returned to action with a Friday night fixture against Ynysygerwn at Jenner Park.

An evenly-contested first half saw defences on top with very few chances created. It took a defensive error to see the deadlock broken just after the half an hour mark when a communication breakdown between centre back James Scott and goalkeeper Riley Allen saw Ynysygerwn forward Casey Jones benefit with a close-range tap in.

Airport controlled the match from them on but were unable to produce anything, with the visitors surviving a melee in their penalty box towards the end to take all three points and inflict a first home league defeat of the season for Cardiff Airport.

The response to this first home defeat was positive for the visit of struggling Canton FC.
Airport were gifted two goals in the first 16 minutes by the visiting goalkeeper. First, he was beaten at his near post to allow Ollie Tipples’ flicked header into the net.

Next, a few minutes later he launched an ill-judged challenge outside his area to allow Alfie Tipples round him to score into an empty net. Airport then broke the recent trend of throwing away a two-goal lead when a neat move early in the second half saw Ollie Tipples slot the ball home.

Goalkeeper Barker then suffered another nightmare moment as he misjudged Theo Richards’ long free kick which dropped over him and into the net.

A very satisfying day was completed when Airport were awarded a late penalty which was converted by Tipples for his hat-trick.
