BARRY was struck by a series of arson attacks on Tuesday evening, of 16th July.
Five vehicles were set alight and a sixth was damaged in just over three hours. Police say the vehicles were targeted at several locations, including Tensing Terrace, Holton Road and Coldbrook Road East.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended a total of four incidents during the evening.
The first callout was at the car park adjacent to Tensing Terrace at around 7.54pm – a car fire was extinguished by 8.43pm but it caused damaged to the paint work of a second vehicle.
At around 9.34pm, crews were called to a camper van, which was completely destroyed by fire. The windows on the front of a house were also affected by the heat of the blaze, which was extinguished using two hose reel jets, one main jet and small tools by 10.31pm.
At around 9.58pm, a van opposite St Cadoc’s Church on Coldbrook Road was set alight. It was extinguished using two breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, a combi tool and lighting by 10.32pm.
Finally, at, 10.06pm, a crew from Barry fire station was sent to Ash Grove, where two vehicles were on fire. Two hose reel jets, one breathing apparatus and small gear was used to tackle the blaze, before the incident was handed over to police around 40 minutes later.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police (SWP) said: “We are appealing to the public for any information or CCTV footage that may assist the investigation.”
