Barry man is honoured for his environmental work

Barry Island resident, Brian Mayne, has once again been voted by the waste and resource industry as a leading environmentalist for his commitment to eliminating waste and emissions.

The industry highlights the work of leading figures by voting for a ‘Top 100’ and individuals in that group include environmental luminaries such as Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough.

Brian explained, “I’m particularly pleased to make the top 100 this year as I’ve cut back on national public speaking engagements and writing articles and concentrated on supporting local organisations such as Friends of Barry Beaches, Barry Action for Nature, and Valeways.”

Brian has been a regular in the Resource Hot 100, having made it to number 28 as far back as 2004. This year he was at number 95. The Resource Hot 100 celebrates individual achievement in the waste and resources industry. Since 2002, industry professionals have been invited to nominate and vote for the people they feel have made a difference that year. Brian was identified this year as “Leading circular economy discussions across the home nations”.

He is a fellow of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management and the Royal Society of Arts, Chartered Environmentalist, and is recognised by the International Solid Waste Association as an International Waste Manager.

Brian is a director of his own environmental consultancy that works with clients across the public, private and third sectors offering advice on the circular economy, wastes management, and behaviour change. He also lectures and provides training on a range of environmental and waste subjects.
