Barry man (21) is jailed for vicious and unprovoked attack
A 21-YEAR-OLD from Barry who launched a vicious and unprovoked attack on a man who invited him into his home has been jailed for 18 months.
Cardiff Crown Court heard how Michael Sparks, of Hywel Crescent, Barry, was invited into the home of Jacob Green on 14th July when he began shouting “Where is the money? I know you got money.”

Sparks went on to punch and strangle Mr Green in a sustained attack that lasted around 20 minutes.
Sparks ransacked the home and stole a bank card and cash belonging to Mr Green.
The prosecution described Mr Green’s injuries as ‘quite harrowing’ and that they left his face ‘completely covered in blood’.
Judge Richard Kember said: “Mr Jacob Green went to one of his neighbours for help who described him as something out of a horror movie.”
Mr Green went to hospital, where he was unable to cough or take a deep breath, and examinations found strangulation marks and several extensive injuries.
His injuries included, but were not limited to fractured ribs, a laceration to his right eye socket along with a collection of blood and swelling to his skull’s left side.
Mr Green later received a CT scan that showed bleeding to the brain, which has since been resolved.
In the months since the attack, Mr Green has told his GP of continuing problems, including headaches and dizziness.
The prosecution told the court that Mr Green continues to struggle with everyday tasks like walking his dog, and that he still suffers from nightmares and flashbacks.
In a written statement to the court, Mr Green said he feels ‘constantly on edge’ and is ‘trying to stay strong as a person’.
Sparks has previous convictions for violent offences and in September 2021 he was sentenced to four weeks at a young offenders’ institution after he assaulted two emergency workers in Cardiff.
