Undercooked Barry start new season

BARRY RFC start their Admiral National League Division Two East Central campaign a week later than originally scheduled when they travel to Llantwit Fardre on Saturday, 19th September. The hosts were beaten 21-5 at Llandaff in their opening fixture.
The Bombers’ home fixture against Cardiff Quins on Saturday was postponed after Barry opted to take advantage of the extra week of contact preparation the WRU has allowed clubs.
But Barry will go into the match at Llantwit Fardre not having played a single pre-season game, with two scheduled fixtures called off because of rock hard pitches following summer heatwaves, and a third when the opposition were unable to field a team.
The lack of pre-season matches and consequent game time hasn’t helped Barry’s preparation, with full contact in training being ruled out until this month as the Reservoir Field pitch was also baked hard.
