MORE than 70 cannabis plants have been seized by police officers during a raid of a former bank in Barry on Tuesday, 25th June.
Police discovered a cannabis factory within the vacant premises on Holton at around 10am, and have since arrested and charged a 23 year-old man on suspicion of being involved in the cultivation of cannabis.
South Wales Police (SWP) say the property has been made safe and that Arlind Vata was due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
In a similar discover on Thursday, 20th June, at another former bank on Stanwell Road, Penarth, SWP discovered a cannabis factory and arrested a 35 year-old man.
Florian Qalliu has since been charged on suspicion of being concerned in the cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity.
A spokesperson from SWP said: “Any production of drugs is linked to hidden harm and cannabis factories are often run by organised crime gang.
“The electrical requirements to grow this many plants are also dangerous and can be a huge fire risk, putting neighbouring properties, and lives, in danger.
“We would encourage people to please continue to report suspicious behaviour and suspected drug dealing in their neighbourhood to us.”
