Council completes Barry play area upgrade

A run-down play area in Barry has recently reopened following major upgrading by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Originally constructed by national house builders Persimmon Homes, the residential playground at Clos Peiriant had fallen into disrepair over many years.
Acquiring the site, the Council has invested £60,000 to renovate the existing play area.
Consulting with residents overlooking the site, the Council has transformed the run-down play area into a fun, modern space, designed for children aged up to eight years old.
The new play area boasts new apparatus, such as swings, play panels and a play trail, all of which feature sea life characters and a blue underwater look, in line with the new nautical theme.
The equipment also accommodates children with additional needs, with sensory features such as a cradle swing and sensory panels.
Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, said: “It is great to see the new and improved play area open for use again in time for the Spring and hopefully better weather.
“I’m sure that it’s new modern look will be well received by the local community.
“The Clos Periant upgrade is part of a widespread programme to improve play areas across the Vale.
“I hope that the new facility is enjoyed by local families and provides their children with a fun space to enjoy outdoor play.”
