Event: Cowbridge history society celebrates 50 years
THE members of Cowbridge History Society have planned a free day of celebration to mark the group’s 50th birthday.
On Saturday, 16th November, the Town Hall will host a series of events from 10am to 4.30pm including a showing the film Cowbridge on Film, two talks by well-known local historians, a display of photographic and documentary material from the society’s archive, the launch of a new book and a light-hearted play on the history of Cowbridge – all accompanied by tea and cakes.

Timetable of events:
10:30am to 11:15am: First showing of “Cowbridge on Film” using archival footage.
11:30am to 12:30pm: GRAHAM LOVELUCK-EDWARDS, author, columnist and broadcaster will talk on “Cowbridge and the Missing Roman Fort”.
12:40pm to approx. 1:00pm: A light-hearted look at the History of Cowbridge by DICK BUSWELL, author, performed by PETER KNAPP and GEOFF GRIST from CADS with a multitude of hats.
2:00pm to 3:00pm: MARTIN JOHNES, Professor of Modern History at Swansea’s School of Culture and Communication, author and broadcaster will talk on “Wales and the Second World War”.
3:00pm to 3:20pm: Launch and sales of new publication Cowbridge and District 1860 to 1930 by E W MILES.
3:30pm to 4:15pm: Second Showing of “Cowbridge on Film”.
Also all day:
- Photographic exhibition of aspects of Cowbridge History over 50 years.
- Fun Quiz: “How well do you know Cowbridge?”
- Bookstall: a variety of local history books available including CHS publications.
- Refreshments will be available.
