Fireworks return to Barry Island

Fireworks return to Barry Island – by MARCUS STEAD:

EVENT REMINDER: The annual charity Fireworks Fiesta returns to Barry Island this Saturday, 29th October, after two years of cancellations due to the pandemic.

People are encouraged to gather along the promenade and gardens for the free display, which begins at 7.30pm.

The event is being organised for the first time by Chemical Corporation, and bucket collections will take place to raise money for the Age Connects charity, which aims to tackle loneliness, isolation and poverty among older people.

Barry Island Pleasure Park will be open from 4pm and will offer free rides on the Ghost Train throughout the evening.

Road closures in surrounding areas will come into effect from 5pm and will last until 10pm. Residential access and a diversion route will operate via Plymouth Road.

Harbour Road and Nells Point car parks will be open for the event, and people are asked to check the Transport for Wales website for up-to-date information as train services continue to be disrupted by the ongoing industrial dispute.

On Friday, 4th November, Barry RFC will host a fireworks display at the Reservoir Fields on Merthyr Dyfan Road. Doors will open from 6pm and the fireworks begin at 7.30pm. The display, on the eve of Guy Fawkes Night, costs £5 for adults, but under 16s can enter for free, and refreshments will be available.
