‘Flirts’ are sighted in Barry

‘Flirts’ are sighted in Barry

A new fleet of trains will be appearing on railway lines in the Vale, as Transport for Wales test out the new models and introduce them into regular service.

Local railway enthusiast Mike Wilcock spotted this new model recently, and the trains are currently undergoing ‘mileage accumulation’ prior to hopefully going into service in December. Via YouTube, he has posted the clip above showing of one of the trains arriving at Barry Station during trials in the Vale.

Mike told the Glamorgan Star: “They are built in Switzerland by Stadler and are known as Flirts – which stands for Fast Light Intercity and Regional Train.

“These particular ones are diesel powered but there will also be a fleet of similar hybrid units, the first of which has been built and should be delivered in the coming months.”

Mike added: “Readers can watch my video of the new trains by logging onto Google and entering Mike Wilcock You Tube.”
