The false imprisonment of a 76-year-old woman resulted in a three and a half year prison sentence for Benjamin Brightmore.
An elderly woman living alone in Fairwater in November 2022 went to let her dog out in the garden at night when she didn’t expect a stranger to appear in her garden and break into her home.
He then attacked her and used force to stop her from leaving three times, resulting in minor injuries.
By acting quickly, the victim entered the garage on the pretence of obtaining cigarettes for the suspect. She then managed to break free through the garage door before rushing to her neighbour’s residence.
Brightmore, from Sheffield, was apprehended and charged on 18th February, then charged and remanded the following day after being tracked down using CCTV, ANPR, and forensics.
On Wednesday 16th August, Brightmore was given a 43-month jail term after entering a guilty plea to the charge of false imprisonment.
