Landmark pubs being transformed into social housing
CONTRACTORS are now on site and work is underway on transforming three of Barry’s landmark pubs into social housing.
A planning application for the development of the Windsor Hotel, in Holton Road, the Castle Hotel, in Jewel Street, and Sea View Labour Club, Dock View Road, all in Barry, was submitted to the Vale council in 2019.
The application followed a public consultation, attended by around 40 people, in September 2019.
Developments have been part funded by the Welsh Government (social housing grant) Working in partnership with Vale of Glamorgan Council and Welsh Government.
Windsor Hotel and The Castle is due to be completed by Spring 2022 and Sea View to be completed by Autumn 2022.
Windsor Hotel has five one-bedroom flats; and 13 two-bedroom (three people) flats – two of which are adapted.

The Castle – 12 one-bedroom (two people) flats; and two two-bedroom (three people) flats. Sea View will be transformed into eight one-bedroom walk ups; 11 one-bedroom (two people) flats; and nine two-bedroom (three people) flats (two are adapted).

A Newydd Housing Association spokeswoman said: “These developments will provide a supply of much-needed housing in these areas.
“All three developments will provide job opportunities to the local area including work experience and apprenticeship opportunities.
“These spaces have been recognised as part of the regeneration project and will bring life back into these buildings that have been left empty for a while.”
