AFTER staging a successful concert of Medieval music just before Christmas in the beautiful setting of St Illtud’s Church in Llantwit Major, the Fountain Singers will be returning to the same venue for a concert on the theme of the Passion.
The performance on 2nd April, Palm Sunday, at 4.30pm, will see the Fountain Singers working with local harpist Susan Banks. The programme will cover a substantial period in music history, starting from Gregorian Chant and stretching to Early Renaissance motets.
The Fountain Singers’ leader, Anna Cristoni-Apel, said: “The central piece of the concert is the Processio in die veneris sancti (Procession of Good Friday) by Johannis de Quadris, a musician active in the San Marco Basilica in Venice during the 14th Century. Other pieces include music from Hildegard von Bingen and Luca Marenzio. The concert aims to explore medieval perception and spirituality connected with Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross.
Tickets are available now on Ticketsource or at the door; the audience is invited to refreshments at the end of the concert.
Upcoming projects for the Fountain Singers are two concerts in June 2023 with the title ‘Sacred and Profane Love’, in cooperation with the instrumental group ContraBand; Anna Cristoni-Apel will lead a workshop about Gregorian Chant and early polyphony on 10th June 2023, within the These3Streams Festival in Llantwit Major.
