New contract secures the future of leisure centres

THE Vale Council has extended its contract with the company that manages its leisure centres.
It was in 2012 that the council signed a 10-year contract with Parkwood Leisure, and they have now agreed a seven-year extension. A five-year extension had been agreed just before the Covid lockdowns began, and the disruption led to a delay in signing that contract. Now, the two parties have agreed a seven-year deal.
There was support for this new contract from the Llantwit First Independents. A spokesperson said: “We are delighted with this decision and it is good to see that Llantwit Major Leisure Centre will be having long overdue improvements to changing facilities.
”The spokesperson added that the Covid situation had led to fears that the council might have to consider closing its Cowbridge and Llantwit Major leisure centres if an agreement could not be reached.
