PENCOED Cricket club Firsts secured a good home win over Cardiff Fourths by four wickets, gaining 19 points to 5. This result put Pencoed up to second in League 10.
Pencoed needed a good start against a strong side and Pencoed’s Gareth Williams delivered! Gareth (3-30) and Rhys Morgan (3-29) shared six wickets while James Smith and Levi McCormick took two apiece as one of Pencoed’s best fielding displays restricted Cardiff to 122 all out.
Cardiff came out fighting hard as expected and took early wickets of their own. But Rhodri Owen, who top-scored with 46, and captain Jack Frewen (20) battened down the hatches to take control and give Pencoed a well-deserved win, in a contest that was played in good spirit between the sides.
Pencoed 124/6, Cardiff Fourths 122 all out.
