Sing for Finn
BARRY-BASED brain tumour charity Finn’s Foundation is being supported by Barry Male Voice Choir (BMVC) in an initiative to get men singing.
Finn’s Foundation was created in memory of Finn McCabe who died, aged 12, on July 20, 2018. Finn was diagnosed with a Diffuse Pontine Glioma (DIPG) three weeks before his 12th birthday on July 25th, 2017.
The Sing for Finn project began on Thursday 17th June with new potential members turning up to have a go.
The project is open to all men who enjoy singing whether it be on the terraces, the pub or the shower and new singers are welcome as the rehearsals continue throughout July and August. The sessions will finish in a ticketed performance in late summer.
BMVC chairman, Martyn Todd said he was looking forward to Sing for Finn as an opportunity for some current choir members to buddy up with new voices. He said: “Our aim is for men to go away with a positive experience of singing in a group with other men and also to support a worthwhile cause. “If this pandemic has taught us anything it’s that community groups are stronger when they come together and support each other.”
Finn’s dad, Lee McCabe and brother Jack from Finn’s Foundation called in to a recent BMVC rehearsal at Romilly Primary School’s barn where the project runs from 6.15pm to 7.15pm on Thursdays. Mr McCabe is keen to be able to take part in live events once more. He said: “Charities have had a tough time over the past year and although the team has worked incredibly hard to keep online fundraisers going Finn’s Foundation is looking forward to the next phase of restrictions being eased. “We’re always open to suggestions from local groups and businesses and are pleased to be involved in this project with Barry Male Voice Choir.”
Finn’s Foundation raises money to give directly to families with terminal illness or life-threatening disease. The charity also recognises the importance of research and 20 per cent off funds goes to Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma research.
