Pencoed keep pace with top two in League 10
PENCOED Cricket Club took on Bridgend Thirds and won by 49 runs, taking 20 points to 9 in the league 10 table. This kept Pencoed to third with one game to play.
Batting first, Pencoed opener Tim Moore’s 45 got them off to a good start. From there, skipper Jack Trewen saw out the rest of the innings with an unbeaten 59, supported by the McCutcheon brothers with Scott (32) and Simon (23) helping to take the team to 223-9.
In reply, Division 10’s leading wicket taker, Pencoed’s James Smith, took 3-38 while Gareth Williams and Rhys Morgan took two apiece during another great team effort in the field to restrict Bridgend to 174 all out.
Come what may, it has been another great season for Pencoed, with lots of positives to be proud of and areas that they know can be improved on ready for 2026.

Past versus Present in close game
On a social day with a barbecue, a Past XI were in no mood to hang around as they put the Present XI under pressure, scoring 169- 7 off 22 overs. Neil Raikes top scored with 39 while the Gregorys, Richard and Marcus, hit 29 and 25 respectively.

When the Present XI batted, club veteran Chris Cole rolled back the years taking 3-10. Despite Gareth Williams and Nigel Jordan reaching their ‘25 and outs’ target, and also knocks of 23 from James Smith and Gareth Hendry, the Present XI looked to be coming up short of the target until Alex Frewen came back in with two overs left and hit the 25 runs needed to win on the penultimate ball.
Pencoed Past 169-7 v Pencoed present 171-7
Both sides really enjoyed the game and hope to make it an annual event. It was nice to see some old familiar faces and catch up. Thanks to those who came down early to watch. It was a great way to open the Cider and Music Festival.
Also, a big thank you goes to chairman Ieuan Watkins and his wife Kirsty for running the barbecue all day, along with Wayne Palmer and the staff/volunteers at Pencoed RFC for making the event a great success.
